GoldSquawk Markets Desk
The GoldSquawk Markets Desk writes the news and opinion pieces on GoldSquawk: short news reports on what moved gold and oil and why, and opinion columns that argue against the market consensus.
How a piece is made
Each piece starts from the stories and figures on the GoldSquawk feed: our real-time headlines, exchange futures prices and settlements, the economic calendar and the series on our data pages. Drafts are written from that material and from published reporting, and every fact in a piece must come from one of those sources. Automated checks then look for claims the sources do not support, figures that disagree with their source, missing attribution and copied wording. An editor reviews every piece, deals with each flag and approves it before it is published. Nothing is published automatically.
Sources and attribution
Every fact is attributed by name to the outlet, official body or dataset it came from. Each piece lists its primary sources: official bodies, regulators, exchanges and data publishers. Figures from our own price and market records are credited as GoldSquawk data. Dates follow Reuters and AP style and times are given in GMT.
News and opinion
News reports are labelled NEWS and report what happened, with the cause the sources give. Opinion columns are labelled OPINION, argue a view in the desk's own voice and name the consensus they argue against.
Corrections
If a piece contains an error, we correct it and show the time of the update under the headline. To report an error, use the contact page.
Not advice
Everything the desk publishes is general market commentary, not financial, investment or trading advice.
